About
The Tennessee Local Food Summit was started in 2010 by local organic and biodynamic farmer Jeff Poppen. Now in its 12th year, the summit attracts speakers and attendees from across the country who are interested in the health of local food systems.
What We Do
We believe that a local and regional food system enhances the vitality of our community by improving the health of our local economy, environment and people. Middle Tennessee is covered in fertile farmland that once fed Nashville, and our mission is to make this a reality again.
-
We promote regenerative grazing and sustainable farming practices and provide educational opportunities to preserve and expand our rich tradition of diversified family farms.
-
We advocate for fair and equal distribution of wealth across the food system because fresh food is a basic right.
-
We educate our local population about the food system and provide resources and opportunities to find healthy, fresh food from within our community.
-
We partner with local institutions such as hospitals, restaurants and schools who want to support a more sustainable food system.
Mission Statement
We support a healthy local food system for Middle Tennessee by hosting events that educate and connect. We promote food sovereignty through educational empowerment and provide the collaborative space necessary to develop a resilient local food economy. Middle Tennessee once fed itself, and it will again.
